New FCCRA Provision Allows Some Employers to Recover Leave-Related Payroll Expenses

The news flowing about approved and pending legislation related to the Coronavirus is monumental and complex to interpret. In addition to the legal briefs that we shared with you on Friday, more information has come to our attention that you need to consider when evaluating leave requests from staff.

U.S. Treasury, IRS and Labor announce plan to implement Coronavirus-related paid leave for workers and tax credits for small and midsize businesses to swiftly recover the cost of providing Coronavirus-related leave.

Similar to our prior announcement:

  • If you have employees who are positive for COVID-19, these payroll tax credits may benefit you.
  • If you have employees who need time off because they are caring for an infected individual, these payroll tax credits may benefit you.
  • If you have employees who need time off because their child’s school or place of care are closed or unavailable, these payroll tax credits may benefit you.
